21/5/26
It’s Thursday and you know what that means.
What does an indie rock band do on their Thursday? Surviving our day jobs for one. But tonight is our first pre-production rehearsal for our upcoming live shows. We are pulling out all the stops. We’ve bought new tech and rethought our whole live show and its time to put it all to the test. There is a lot of moving parts but if we can pull it off its going to take our performances to the next level!
I recently went to see The Twilight Sad at the Newcastle date of their recent tour. The sound and performance was captivating but what astonished me was how the lighting was such an integral part of the experience. I was inspired to explore elements beyond the music to enhance our production.
We will debuting the new show, presenting Hard Times in its entirety at Hidden in Dundee on Saturday 20th of June!
What tunes are in my rotation at the moment?
It’s not a surprise that “It’s the Long Goodbye” by The Twilight Sad - It has been on repeat since its release and that has only intensified since witnessing the songs live. The way they are delivered with absolute sincerity is so utterly profound. Raw infiltered honesty.
“You Got This” by Skindred – I have been a sucker for Skindred ever since my days of playing Need for Speed: Underground 2. The joy and sheer energy is so infectious. This album is my go to gym soundtrack. I was delighted when they got No1 Album.
“Floodland” by Sisters of Mercy – I am always trying to expand my horizons and explore something I haven’t before. Goth Rock is one of my most recent discoveries courtesy of my Girlfriend. The bug bit hard and quickly became a go to for road trips and dancing in the kitchen.
“Vol.II” by Angine de Poitrine - What can I say? The wonderfully alien duo from Quebec took the internet by storm after that pivotal live session with KEXP. They are for sure a marmite kind of band. I for one love it! A sentiment that I know isn’t shared by my bandmates. I think because it is such a foreign sound. My brain gives up trying to analyse and I can just relax and vibe with the groove. I have tickets to see them in October in Glasgow and I cannot wait.
